What's tragic for Japan? That's what it evokes every gamut of smallness in the world, ranging from bonzai to vandalism to plunderism. The country of Japan is so trivial, looks to be so trivial and acts so trivial that the nation is depicted as "a dwarfish nation."

They can't remember that they had been indebted to Korea, that is, that they had been enlightened and enriched by Chinese characters and Korean culture.

They remember their youth, but they can't accept their age. They remember the day the Japanese decrepit bombers had attacked the Pearl Harbor but they are forgetful of the hellish days when they had their nation atom-bombed by the U.S. bombers and the entire people of two cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki had been scorched to death.



(일본의 비극이 무엇인가? 그것은 일본이 역사의 교훈을 모른다는 것이다. 참 편리한 기억도 갖고 있다. 그런 편리한 기억력은 아마도 도서국가 근성에서 오는 것인지도 모른다. 그들은 젊음만을 기억하고 늙음을 받아들이지 못한다. 그들은 뭐 그들의 구닥다리 공군 폭격기로 진주만을 공격했던 날만 기억하고 미국의 폭격기로부터 원폭세례를 받고 히로시마와 나가사키 두 도시의 시민들이 새카맣게 불타죽었던 그 지옥같은 날들은 까맣게 잊고 있다.)
